The Hike That Almost Wasn’t

Just poppin’ in for a minute (or five), here tonight. In my last blog, I made mention that I needed a head clearing hike this weekend. Well, I got it. I squeezed it in bright, and early, on Saturday morning (not really, it was at like 11). It was so cold out–I almost didn’t get out there. I kept thinking of ALL the reasons not to go. (Mostly–because it was really, freakin’, cold out. The ‘feel like’ temp was zero. Yes. Nothing. It felt like nothing–nothing but a buncha little needles hitting your skin, that is.) I did gear up, just in case–insulated Think Tank camera bag, snow pants, boots, mittens, hat, etc.; and, I also made sure I had my heels and cute jeans for work. (You know, so I didn’t look totally unprofessional. πŸ™‚ ) I got in the car, and started to head into work (thinking that I was already too chilly to go get more chilly). That’s when I realized that the trees were still completely white from the snow the day before. That was also when I changed course, and headed to the trails. Once the sun came out, and stayed out, I knew the snow would start, immediately, dropping from the tree branches. (And, I am so in love with walking though the snow-covered .)

It turned out to be be beautiful back in the woods. The trees shielded the wind. The snow muffled all the extra sounds. The sun peeked through the branches to warm things up; and, by the end of my 1.5 miles in the snow, I had actually worked up a sweat–while also leaving the clutter of my mind, lost, somewhere in the silence of the snow. That little hike was exactly what I needed–even though I tried to talk myself out of it.

Right after my trek through the woods, I went to grab a hot cup of black coffee, strip down to my cute jeans, trade the Sorels for heels, and get into work to take some really pretty pictures of really pretty things to post about, and blog about, throughout the rest of the week. (I’ll share some pics/links below.)

Anyway, like I said, I had geared up. Now, I didn’t actually take OUT my gear, but, I did take out my phone to grab these shots. I was just happy with this silence, and the simplicity–no need for the big guns to come out this time. πŸ™‚ (Click on these images to make them bigger.)

And…then there’s me. I had taken off my hat somewhere along the route–I didn’t want my hair to get too sweaty (or flat), before work. (Think Tank re-posted this on their Instagram story. It was exciting. I wish I had said something more clever about this image, however. Oh well.) ((Also, can I just add that buying snow pants, as an adult, was one of the best decisions I’ve made in a long time.))
