Anoka’s Hometown Holiday Celebration :: Minnesota Photographer

Last night…the big tree, in downtown Anoka was lit up for the Christmas season–and, I was there to capture the whole evening. Santa rolled in around three on an old fire truck, and from there, Mrs. Claus chatted with all the folks waiting to see him in his shack. The local Boy Scouts sold S’mores making kits and our fire department manned the bonfires that kept folks warm, entertained, and social. The horses pulled the trolley and took pictures with folks, the Women’s Club sold food and drinks, and the fair food trucks showed up to serve up fried treats. The Christmas classics were played loud enough to hear everywhere, and the Mayor was there to enjoy the night, as well as the Anoka Ambassadors, in their sparkly crowns. It was chilly, but not bitter, so even the youngest, and oldest of folks, could enjoy the evening without feeling too frozen. The big tree was donated by a local family and was lit at 6pm, sharp as everyone counted down, and then cheered away.  After that, the Grinch showed up in the windows of Main Floral and made people laugh as the crowd, slowly, dispersed for the evening.  I have a few photos from the celebration posted below…

Next up in Anoka…the Over the River, and Through the Shops, shopping event. It’s such a great time to wander the streets and get a little holiday shopping done, too.  More info here: http://www.discoveranoka.com/events/anoka-hometown-holiday
